 PROCESS
RESPONSE & ASSESSMENT
 Informal interaction (5mts)
The teacher begins the class with a video clipping. (IT).
The teacher asks the following questions based on the video clipping.
 How many animals did you see?
 Name them.

Eliciting free response from the students and write the responses on the black board.
Processing a song(15mts)
The teacher again shows a video clipping. (IT).
The teacher asks the following questions based on the video clipping.
 Did you watch the video?
 What are the elephants doing?

Then the teacher develops a concept map using words like Just, What, and Glorious day and begins to process the poem.
·         Singing the song one or two times.
·         Learners sing along with the teacher.
·         Writing the lines on the black board.
·         Project the lines on the screen (IT).
·         Sing again.
·         Sensitises with rhythm and pattern.
The Elephants are swimming in the pool,

The teacher asks any five students to stand up and clap their hands. {PT).

Interaction(10 mts)
 Have you enjoyed the poem?
 Now, let’s play a game.

The teacher gives a card to each student which contains a game to connect dots. (Art Education).
Eliciting free response from the students about the game and write the responses on the black board by asking the following questions.

o   Have you identify the girl in the picture?
o   What is her name?
o   Give a name to her?
o   Who is the next person?
o   Can you name that person?
     After that the teacher cut two characters from the game card. (Art Education).
Then the teacher reminds them about Sujatha and Sudharman, the elephant, using some images with the help of projector. (IT).

Interaction
•You have seen how Pappanar and his friends are planning to trap Sudharman. Pappanar and his men dug a pit to trap Sudharman.
Where is Sujatha now?
I shall tell you about her.
Presentation of Narrative.(10mts)
The teacher presents the following narrative with proper facial expression, tone variation, pronunciation, intonation etc.
Sujatha went back home. She felt very sad. At night, she went to bed early. She even forgot to have her supper. Her dear friend Sudharman is in danger. She lay on the mat with her eyes shut. But she couldn’t sleep. She feared that Sudharman might fall into the pit. Her ears pricked up for the trumpeting of an elephant.
  ‘Oh God! Please save Sudharman. If Sudharman is safe tonight, tomorrow morning I can tell him about the trap.’
She couldn’t get even a wink of sleep till late in the night. She woke up suddenly hearing a loud noise.
‘What’s that?’ she thought.
Interaction (2mts)
What might be the sound that Sujatha heard?
Will Sudharman be trapped?
What will happen to Sudharman?
What will Sujatha do to help Sudharman?
Reading. (10mts).
Individual reading
Ask the pupils to read the passage‘ Anxious Moments’ from their Coursebook. (Page no 16).

Sharing in groups:
Group the learners and ask them to share what they understood and what they did not understand. Pupils check the glossary to clear doubts. Teacher asks to share what they liked most and why.
Sharing between groups:
Allows groups to share their ideas. Teacher monitors group work by asking scaffolding questions and provide necessary guidance.
Reading by the teacher
The teacher reads the passage with proper pronunciation, tone variation, intonation etc and asks scaffolding questions.

·         Who opened the door?
·         Why did she open the door?
·         What did she see?
·         Did she see Sudharman there?
Discourse Processing :(5mts)
Writing about a picture
The teacher asks the learners to look at the first picture in page no 17 and asks them to write about the picture.
The teacher asks the following questions to support their writing.
 What do you see in them?
 Is Sudharman there?
 If so, where is he?
 What are the other elephants doing?
Individual writing.
Random presentation.
Sharing in groups.
Group presentation.
Presenting teachers version
Teachers version
There is a large pit in the ground. Sudherman fell in to that pit which is covered with grass and leaves. Poor elephant! He is trapped. Some elephants came and they begin to pull him from the pit.
Editing (30mts) [with the involvement of whole class]
All group products are exhibited. The teacher asks them to identify what is more than in teacher’s version.
Select one group product and carries out the following editing process.
Steps:
1. Thematic Editing:
The learners add missing ideas in their write-ups and present their final
products for language editing.
2. Punctuation Editing:
Fixing the boundaries of a sentence :Only the initial capitalization and the
final full stop/ question mark/ exclamation mark at the end of the sentence
need be addressed here. Thus we fix the boundaries of each sentence in the discourse. Other punctuation marks may be edited along with or just before spelling editing.
3. Syntactic Editing:
· Identify and eliminate excess words
· Identify and supply missing words
· Change word order
4. Morphological Editing:
Edit
· Wrong tense form
· Aspectual errors
· The passive
· Agreement
· Affixes
5. Editing of Spelling and Remaining Punctuation Marks
Self-assessment by the learners
Fill in the boxes using the words yes/ somewhat/ no.
§  I was able to describe the incident well.
§  The sentences I used were properly connected.
§  I was able to express my ideas in apt words.
§  The ideas were arranged in proper sequence.
§  I used proper punctuations
Giving extended activities :
1. Add more lines:
a)      We are dancing in the rain
b)      …………………………..
c)      ………………………….
d)      ………………………….(3 lines)
2. Colour the game card and split in to two charecters.

3. There is a word in Anxious Moments, which means Daily Domestic Tasks. Find it and construct a sentence .

4. A picture is given below. Write a description about it.
*You should give extended activities at the end of each period. The extended activities should contain CCA activities and also other activities including grammatical aspects.
