Informal Interaction
The teacher engages in an informal talk with the students so as to create a good rapport with them

(Greeting and chatting….. Frame some Questions in advance…. to make them ready to learn….
Good morning …. are you all happy…. Have you had your breakfast…. Are you comfortable in your seats…. Take your numbers…)

Entry Activity

Teacher shows the picture of a king and asks the students to identify the picture and she asks certain questions like:
i)               What are the qualities of a good ruler?
ii)             Can you name a famous ruler?

Link Talk

The character of the king is linked to the play. Teacher introduces the play ‘Macbeth’ to the students. Sufficient information regarding the play is made available to the students. The author of the play Shakespeare too is introduced to the students. The title of the play and the name of the writer is written on the black board. The other major characters are also introduced to the students.

Micro Processing of the Input

Model Reading by the Teacher

             The teacher reads the first two paragraphs of the play with proper pronunciation, stress, intonation and in meaningful units. The theme and the necessary details are also forwarded to the students.

 Track Reading by the Pupil
               
              Students are asked to read the first two paragraphs individually and silently and they are also asked to mark accordingly. That is they have to put tick (  ), for what they have understood, a question mark (?) for what they haven’t and an exclamatory mark (!) for what they found interesting or surprising.




Glossary reference

Students are asked to refer the glossary to find out the meaning of difficult words. The difficult words are chieftain, rebellion, commanders etc.

Collaborative Learning

                                         Students are asked to form groups and share their ideas in groups. Students are also asked to write down the word in the personnel word list.

Megaphoning the doubts

Each group given opportunity raise their doubts to other groups.
Eg: Group A to Group B
What is the meaning of the word ‘ ideal ‘?
Group A to Group B
The meaning of the word ‘ ideal ‘ is most suitable or perfect.




Facilitation by the Teacher

         Teacher helps to clarify the difficult areas which no groups could effectively tackle. Teacher also explains the difficult areas.

Scaffolding Questions

In order to make the content clearer, scaffolding questions are asked to the students. The students are asked to write down the answers.
I)               Who was the king of Scotland? What were the qualities of that king ?
( King Duncan was the king of Scotland. He was a fare- minded kind hearted and an ideal ruler.)

II)            Who were the two skillful and trusted commanders of the king?
( Macbeth and Banquo were the two Skillful and trusted commanders of the king.)

III)              Whom did the two men meet while they were travelling through the widest and loneliest regions in the country?
(The two men (Macbeth and Banquo) were stopped by three strange looking woman (Witches) while they were travelling through the wildest and the loneliest regions in the country.


Presentation by the pupil

Randomly students are selected from each group and they are asked to present the answers for the scaffolding questions.

Language Activity

A set of different words are selected from the first two paragraphs. For eg. Victory wildest, Chieftains etc. Students have to construct sentences with these words.



Students interacted well with the teacher during the initial interaction.







Students observed the picture carefully and they identified the picture and answered well to the questions well to the questions asked by the teacher. Students told that a king should be honest, trust worthy etc.



Students attentively listened to the teacher. Students carefully grasped the title of the play. The details of the author too was well listened to by the pupil. Students keenly observed the pictures shown by the teacher with great interest.








Students listened to the reading by the teacher with much attention. T he students carefully listened the explanations provided by the teacher.




Students read the first two paragraphs of the play and they marked according to the teacher’s instruction.







Students referred the glossary to find out the meanings of difficult words.







Students formed groups and shared their ideas among themselves. Students also entered the words in the personnel word list.




Students megaphoned their doubts to other groups in order to make the content more clear.










Students listened carefully to the further explanations provided by the teacher.








Students wrote down the answers for the scaffolding questions asked by the teacher. They discussed the answers among themselves and wrote down the answers effectively.

Students actively participated in the language activity. Students constructed sentences with the words given by the teacher.   

Assignment
Read the story version of any Shakespeare’s play and construct a summary.
